Taking inspiration from Victoria University’s Poetry Kit resource, I wrote a poem in the style of Octavio Paz’s “Motion”. If you’re interested in following along and giving it a go yourself, I highly recommend it as a way to flex your creative muscle.
Pursuit – in the style of Motion by Octavio Paz
If you are the diary padlock
I am the mischievous little brother
If you are the dog’s drooled on driftwood
I am a spectating seashell
If you are the bold opening chapter
I am the tortured rewrites preceeding
If you are the swipe of a stylus
I am the dark pixels that appear in its place
If you are the thrown stone sinking
I am the outstretching ripples
If you are the stroke of midnight
I am the coveted feast of pic’n’mix
If you are the drying laundry
I am the whimper of a wind
If you are the bubbling, 100C threshold
I am the steam escaping
If you are the lid on the top of my mind
I am the dregs at the bottom of yours
If you are the joy of a confident karaoke singer
I am the lyrics belt out at the pub
If you are the mycellium network
I am a simple fungi awaiting commands
If you are the bell at the end of the school day
I am the stampede of goodbying children
If you are the disoriented hedgehog
I am the good Samaritan
That’s all from me folks, hope you’re enjoying the infiltration of poem salad as much as I am xx I’d love to hear if you end up any of these exercises a go!
